High-End Sustainable Architecture & Design

Javier Riostello

Born in Madrid, Javier was raised in a little town on the Mediterranean Coast surrounded by the Sea, the light and the local landscape.

His family lived in a traditional spanish masia, a house made out of raw local stone walls and driftwood beams. He understood early on the deep connection between indoor and outdoor living spaces and absorbed the use of local materials and techniques.

His grandparents were fashion designers and collectors of furniture. They passed on to him their passion for design and antiques. His father, a structural engineer, taught him the importance of precision, and his tenacity to fully execute. His imaginative and humanized aesthetic came from his mother who was a psychologist and a painter.

Fascinated by Italian design, he moved to Milan to study Architecture and Fine Arts at Politecnico Di Milano. His designs became an intersection between classic and contemporary style.

His final thesis brought him to New York City, where has lived and worked since 2006.
For 10 years, Javier was head of store design and development for several luxury brands including Calvin Klein, Jimmy Choo, Proenza Schouler and Aquazzura, and his work was awarded with Excellence in Store Design from The Retail Institute.

Our Vision

Since 2016, Javier and his international team has developed innovative residential and commercial spaces in North America and Europe. His background brings a distinctive design and approach to the studio.

Riostello Studio believes we have an obligation to acknowledge our client’s needs. Each project starts with a deep understanding of the client’s very own lifestyle, environment, and the existing architectural conditions.

Our Work

Riostello Studio philosophy separates us from conventional design practices, creating an authentic style based on sustainability. We focus on using natural light, richness of materials, primary geometries, and proportionality.

From architecture to interiors, from construction details to furniture design, we think internationally in order to create consistent and memorable spaces.

Riostello Studio collaborates with international artists and handcrafters to not only stay inspired but to create a unique experience for their clients. Tadao Ando, Oscar Niemeyer, Carlo Scarpa and Pierre Cardin have been their main influences among others.
